netwell centre website launchThe Netwell Centre is based within the Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), the leading 3rd level teaching, research and innovation centre in the Northeast of Ireland, focusing on integrated approaches to 'sustainable living' across ecological, environmental, and health and wellbeing themes. DkIT were supported by grant aid from The Atlantic Philanthropies in establishing the Netwell Centre.

The team at the Netwell Centre has established links with a global network of stakeholders through their on-going activities, placing them at the forefront of understanding of ageing and age-friendliness. Their knowledge, insight and experience have enabled them to be highly influential in the development of collaborative stakeholder engagements, including the development of 16 smart-homes / apartments and the Louth Age Friendly County Initiative.  More recently the establishment of a new commercialisation centre (CASALA), which is  funded by Enterprise Ireland, aims to work with industry to achieve technology product innovation, business competitiveness, and market leadership in the emerging ambient assisted living (AAL) sector.

The Netwell Centre aims to transform communities, environments and technologies for ageing-in-place. Working closely with national and local government, business partners, health services, ageing affiliated agencies, members of the community and other academic establishments, Netwell’s multidisciplinary research team is focused on developments that improve the lives of older people and those who care for them, whilst also creating new business opportunities and informing public policies. Research and development activities involve an array of disciplines including the social and behavioural sciences, health and medical sciences, computer science, engineering, design, marketing and business administration, and as part of a comprehensive R&D environment the Centre has developed a multi-tiered testbed.
