Recognising Elder Abuse Training Day

On Friday 14th January The Nestling Project hosted a very successful community training day entitle  ‘Recognising Elder Abuse In The Community’. The training session was very well attended by representatives of a wide range of local groups involved in the support and care of older people throughout County Louth.

The training was delivered by Oonagh Mc Ateer, Dedicated Officer Elder Abuse, Dublin North East. Up on thirty representatives from local community support groups took part and all were agreed that it was an extremely useful and timely exercise.

The participants were shown a short film which highlighted a number of elder abuse case studies, raising awareness of the type of indicators that may cause concern and alert someone to the risk of elder abuse taking place. The participants were given the opportunity to discuss the case studies and share their experiences. Each participant was given a copy of the ‘Recognising Elder Abuse’ DVD to take back and share with their respective groups so that others would benefit from the training and promote their knowledge within their groups and communities.
