Are you interested in working with the Netwell Centre and contributing to making Louth a better place to grow old? If you are, then, the Netwell Centre has volunteering opportunities for you. Our Cúltaca services provide social support to older people in the home and in the community. Additionally our research staff build the evidence base for more service interventions in the community.
If you would like to volunteer to work directly with older people, Cúltaca will match you to an older person in the community and provide back-up support for both parties, to ensure all are satisfied. Cúltaca Volunteer’s provide a valuable social link for older people who are lonely or isolated, visiting usually in the homes of the older person. They principally provide social interaction for the older person with conversation and reminiscing and maybe enjoy a cup of tea in a relaxed environment, they may also perform some light household tasks. Volunteer’s assist in the mobilisation of the older person to promote their health and wellbeing. Social events organised for the older Men’s and Women’s groups will also require Volunteer’s to help out.
Basic qualities for Volunteering are good communication skills, empathy, reliability and the realisation of the vulnerability of the older person.
Alternatively, if you are more interested in the research aspect, we are looking for volunteers to help collect survey data and input data on a daily basis. Our website provides full details on all our projects. This will help you to decide which project you would like to work on. Research Volunteer’s would assist project leaders on various activities depending on their interest. This can include gathering research evidence for ongoing projects, which can be seen on the website, through surveys and studies. This information is then compiled and input into Databases.
All our volunteers receive induction training and regular support. It is our policy to vet volunteers who will work with older people. This process is managed by An Garda Siochana Vetting Office and will take approximately 6 weeks. Volunteer’s working with the Elderly would be required to be interviewed and two references required, these in turn would be vetted by an Garda Síochana.
